This informative course teaches what it takes to become a successful cadaver dog team. Students learn how to aid in police investigations. Each student will learn handling techniques, scent theory, search methods, obedience, proofing, alerting and how to conduct searches across land terrain and water. All knowledge and skills necessary for a dog to complete a search will be covered, as well as first aid, and other skills. By exploring real-life situations, students will learn how to work with the cadaver dog and use the canine’s keen senses to resolve investigations.
Students will be required to video themselves and their dog/s working in a Cadaver detection setting. The final grade is based, in part, on this video.
